Opera

Soap Opera.  This is an odd term.  Although it never really made a lot of sense, we all know what it means.  Afternoon TV drama involving love and family and relationships and money and all kinds of things that never, ever happen in real life.  It was the first reality type of show, and started on radio.  It was originally sponsored by soap manufacturers, so that’s where ‘soap’ comes in.

So where does opera come in?  An opera, in its general definition, is just music, right? We go to the opera to watch a story play out through music.  So in a way, the term soap opera makes sense as a story is being told through over dramatized acting.  No music is involved, yet perhaps that is the connect to opera – a story being told.  With this in mind, I thought I’d share my own version of a ‘Soap Opera’.
